Your first day

A short route from your first login to a safe base with your first skill points spent.

1. Leave spawn

New players start at spawn, which gets crowded. Use /rtp to be sent somewhere random in the Overworld, between 500 and 4,500 blocks from the centre.

You can run /rtp again if you do not like the spot. Teleports have a short warmup, so stand still.

2. Set a home

When you find a good spot, save it:

/sethome base

Now /home base brings you back from anywhere. You get 1 home to start with, and ranks add more.

3. Claim your land

Nothing is protected until you claim it. Open the claim menu:

/land

Claiming is free. You can have 4 claims of up to 2 chunks each. Read Land claims before you invite anyone.

4. Start earning

Almost everything you normally do earns XP and money:

  • Mining ore, chopping logs, digging and harvesting ripe crops pay XP.
  • Killing monsters, breeding animals, fishing and enchanting pay XP.
  • /shop buys most of what you gather. See the shop.

Claim your daily reward with /rewards too.

5. Spend your skill points

Each level pays skill points. They do nothing until you spend them, so open the tree when you level up:

/skills

Read How skills work before you commit. Respecs after the first one cost points.

If you die

Your items go into a grave that lasts 3 minutes, and other players can open it. Use /deathback straight away. See Death and graves.
