You have one level, from 1 to 100, shared across everything you do. Levelling up pays skill points.

50 + (level x 30) + (level x level x 2)

What counts
See XP sources for every amount.
- Blocks you placed yourself do not pay. Neither do blocks moved by a piston.
- Tools with Silk Touch do not pay.
- Crops only pay when fully grown.
- There is no XP in creative or spectator mode.
